Getting started with Facebook advertising is pretty simple. With a budget and a plan, anyone can create an ad with very little effort.

The final step in the process of creating ads on Facebook is the process of actually designing the ad itself. While it is also a simple process to go through, there are some specific things you will need to do to get the ad right.

Photos – Things to Consider

The most effective way to design an ad is by displaying a photo that is high quality and eye-catching. This photo should be one that displays well on both mobile devices and on large PCs and tablets.

This is something you can review while you are designing your ad, so make sure you take the opportunity to do so. Your photo should be clear and attractive regardless of the device your visitor is using.

Another option you may want to choose is what is known as carousel photos. This is a collection of photos that are included with one ad. You are allowed to choose up to five photos to include in this collection.

Videos are also allowed and can be very beneficial in certain markets. In fact, they are sometimes preferable over photos depending on the target market you are looking to attract.

Facebook Photo Rules

A couple of rules to keep in mind while you are choosing your photos. First, your photos will work best if they are 1200 x 627 pixels. The image ratio should be 8:3 and they may not contain more than 20% text.

Naturally, this rule is difficult to follow on your own. But, Facebook has provided a grid to help make the determination. Keep in mind that if you don’t follow this rule, Facebook will reject your ad.

When you are choosing your photos, you will have the option of uploading your own photos or choosing from free stock images. Regardless of the photo you choose, it is important that you have the rights to use it in your ad.

Text and Links

The text and links you decide to include in your ad should be short and to the point. Those looking at your ad should understand exactly what you are offering rather quickly.

If you take too long getting to the point, they are likely to move on to the next item on the list. Instead, keep them interested by staying short and sweet.

Also, make sure your photos and images work well together. The photos should easily be associated with both your text and your link. This will help make the ad more effective.

Landing Page

Your landing page is one of the most important parts of your entire ad. Without having an effective one, you will have a difficult time getting those who visit your page to convert into customers.

The idea is to be quick to the point, but still offer valuable information for them to consider.

Review Process

After you have created your ad, it will need to go through Facebook for approval. There are a few things Facebook will look for at this time:

  • Too much text in photos
  • Age inappropriate items
  • Correct usage of the term ‘Facebook’

If you do happen to mention the word ‘Facebook’ in your ad, make sure you follow the rules. It should be capitalized, in the same font and style as the text around it, and the logo should not replace the name.

Once the ad is reviewed, you will receive an email letting you know. Approvals will continue as you have specified, but rejections will be sent back to you for correction or replacement.
